I cut my hair.

It was kind of like this.

I didn't cut my own hair. Someone else did it. A professional in a salon.

For the black women, and other knowledgeable Dreamers, reading this, I did a Big Chop. I got my straightened hair cut off, leaving my natural hair the way it grows out of my head.

I decided last fall that I would do this, after I had gone through my regular straightening then cornrow braiding process, which would consistently take so much time (and money) out of my existence. The ROI on this process was no longer as high as I wanted it to be. The eventual convenience of having my hair braided was still there, as I could simply wake up each day without combing my hair. But the upfront investment of the two-week process--which included unbraiding my hair, then a week later having chemical relaxer put on my scalp, then another week later sitting for four hours getting synthetic strands weaved onto my head--was no longer something I could blithely engage in.

What if, as an adult, I could deal with the way my hair naturally grows out of my head?

I executed this decision before I could put it on my Dream Board. I fully intended to comb through Google, searching for Big Chop styles that I could emulate with my 4C textured hair. I still found all the pictures and saved them on my phone to show my stylist. But those pictures haven't yet landed on my Board. And my hair was growing out through my braids so quickly that I needed to find a salon and get it done as soon as possible, so I could get on with my life.

Let's do this NOW.

And that's what I did.

As I write this, none of my friends or family members know that I got my hair cut today, and none of them have seen what it looks like. My hair doesn't match the pictures I selected, because I had more natural hair on my head than I expected.

So my hair is a slightly fluffier work-in-progress, like me!

That's me with a food baby in my tummy after too much hunny.

I might get it cut shorter in a few weeks, or I might let my hair keep growing out and see what happens with this new curl patter on my head.

What's the point of this hair story? Well, sometimes you can achieve your dreams faster than you can put them on the Board. And that's okay.

Dreamers, what goals have you accomplished faster than you could pin them on your Board or write them down? Share those goals with me in the comments below! Or, for you more discreet Dreamers, email me your unexpectedly fast-accomplished goals at iHaveADreamBoard@gmail.com.

Thanks for reading!
