Build a bridge, and get over yourself (i.e. myself).

"You have not truthed with yourselves." - Shazza Zulu

How am I qualified to tell anyone what to do?

I don't have the career I want, much less the one I though I would have by now.

Let me be clear: I love tutoring students, and I love helping them get accepted to colleges and universities and graduate schools.

That said, I would like to be doing this work on a higher level, working with larger groups of students, teaching them proven processes for successes, instead of only instructing them one at a time.

Admittedly, I am actively working to make that change in my career RIGHT NOW. So I'm not sitting on my tuchis, sulking and simply wishing my situation were different. I am taking strategic steps on a daily basis to build my career. But it's not happening RIGHT NOW when I want it to happen, so I think to myself, "Who am I to coach someone else on how to build their career?"

Who am I to coach someone else on how to make more money, when I haven't figured out how to make the money I deserve?

Who am I to coach someone else on how to build a home they love, when I have never bought a house?

Who am I to coach someone else on how to lose weight, when eating less and exercising more has never been the simple solution for my weight goals?

I often need to remind myself, "There's stuff you know that other people don't." Not like the cure for cancer, or whether The Bernie Mac Show is an acceptable substitute for The Cosby Show for (black) parents who wan to show their (black) children positive images of black families.

"We're okay. Aren't we?"

I know stuff like how and why to invest your money, so you don't lose the money you do have. Like putting a stopper in a hole in a bucket.

How and why to build your network through informational interviews.

How and why to create a LinkedIn profile AND your own website.

How and why you need to love yourself before you love anyone else.

"Put yourself first" in a not necessarily sexy way.

How and why you need to make a pros and cons list before you sink your life savings into a down payment and a mortgage.

How and why you need to see your doctor, dentist, and other health care professional at least once a year.

"Time for your check up!"

I know these things. I am enough. I am more than enough. Sometimes I'm too much.

I don't have everything I want. But I do have everything I need to help someone else (like you!) with One Thing.

Dreamers, what is One Thing you know that you could help someone else with? Share your One Thing in the comments, or email me at iHaveADreamBoard@gmail.com.

Thanks for reading!
